When you start the portal server, first thing that Portal does is it prints out the version no. of the WAS which in my case is
WebSphere Platform 6.1 [ND 6.1.0.19 cf190836.04]
. And it also prints out the operating system, java, JIT and other important version information. In addition to that it also prints out
process id 9913
process id of the portal server that you can use if you want to say kill portal server(not recommended at all) or generate java stack trace and thread dump. After this block it prints out information about enterprise applications that are deployed on this server. The next part in the SystemOut.log has WebSphere Portal version information
IBM WebSphere Portal 6.1.0.1
. In my case it is Portal 6.1.0.1
